GEO | About General Education Online

General Education Online is a web based project started in 1995 by Michael Viron that provides a database of links to web sites of educational facilities worldwide.

In 1995, when the GEO project first started work on version 1, all the pages were static, and there was only one developer. 1995's version was a simple listing of some 25 countries, with a grand total of only 400 schools on the list. After seeing visits from about 100 people a day, Michael decided to expand General Education Online to make it useful for more people.
